Obi Donates ₦10m to College of Nursing Sciences in Kaduna
...Urges Govt.,Others to Support Training of More Nurses, Healthcare Professionals
The Presidential candidate of Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election, Mr. Peter Obi has donated the sum of ₦10 million to the College of Nursing Sciences, St. Gerald Hospital in Kaduna State.
Mr. Obi urged the governments at all levels, donor agencies and Nigerians alike to assist in training more nurses and healthcare professionals thereby leading to national development.
“After my visit to Madarasatul Hidayyatul Auladi Muslimima Kawo, Kaduna and FOMWAN Hospital in Badarawa, Kaduna, I proceeded to the College of Nursing Sciences, St Gerald Hospital, Kaduna.
“St Gerald Hospital is one of the oldest of such facilities in Northern Nigeria established in 1957, while the establishment of the College of Nursing Sciences followed thereafter.
“Today, with about a thousand students , the College has continued to train nurses who play very vital roles in our health sector. I supported them with the sum of ₦10 million for the training of more healthcare professionals,” Obi stated on X, formerly Twitter on Wednesday.
He emphasised that health remains a critical contributor to national development and one of the critical measures of the human development index.
“I have continued to encourage investments in the human infrastructure of the health sector, which is the training and encouragement of healthcare professionals.
“By investing in the training of more health workers, we will build a strong health sector, effectively contributing to our human and national development. I encourage the governments, donor agencies and other well-meaning Nigerians, to join in this noble cause of supporting the training of more nurses and healthcare professionals for the ultimate development of the country,” the former Anambra Governor added.
He further said that building a very functional health sector remains critical in the journey to new Nigeria, stressing that it is possible and imminent.
